Urine chemistry

Definition

Urine chemistry refers to a group of tests performed on a urine sample, including the measurement of protein, sugar, keton bodies, bilirubin, urobilin, occult blood, nitrite, PH and sediment levels, as well as specific gravity.

How the test is performed

For this test, a clean-catch (midstream) urine sample is needed. Your doctor will order certain tests, which will be done on the urine sample in a laboratory.

How to prepare for the test

You will be provided with a vial to collect the urine sample, along with specific instructions, the morning of your exam.
